Real Football at the Ray Mac

Salisbury City FC. Ok, hands up if you'd ever heard of them two or three years ago. Not many of you, other than those that live in the city. In fact, only about three or four hundred of the locals seemed to have heard about the club. At least, that was how many bothered to go to watch them.

It's all very different now. Under the careful and astute management of Nick Holmes and Tommy Widdrington the club finds itself, after two successive promotions, in the unchartered territory of the Blue Square Premier (the Conference to you and me.)

They're not just surviving in the big league, they are sitting comfortably in mid table, and looking up with some ambition at the play-off places following a run of seven unbeaten games.

The club is on the rise in spectacular style. Home crowds average over 1500 now, and following the promotions and great FA Trophy runs and an FA Cup adventure last year only ended by Nottingham Forest in a replay, the club is establishing itself on the footballing map.

The first team are achieving great things as a mixture of part-time and full-time players. The young reserve side under the stewardship of John Robson and Salisbury legend Simon Browne, have a 100% record so far this season, and are ensuring that the future looks bright.

The youth set up at the club is developing nicely under Neil Benson, and more and more players will be produced from within as time goes on.

With all the excitement of the development of the club it is a great place to be at this time. The club is friendly and approachable and the fans are so happy to be where they are that they are just enjoying the ride.

With the increase in crowds has come things like more policing and segregation. That is the one shame about moving away from the lower reaches of the game. The friendly banter between sets of real fans, seems to be lacking as you get higher in the football pyramid.

So what is so great about watching a game at The Ray Mac? Well, firstly the standard of football is good. Secondly you can stand up to watch. Thirdly it is only £10 to get in. Fourthly the players give absolutely everything to the cause. There are no prima donnas at this level. Fifthly, and lastly, it is a joy to see a club come from nowhere and threaten to challenge the big boys.

Premier League football is exciting, but it is not something many of us can relate to. It costs a fortune to watch, and you have to sit down during the game. Watching Salisbury play at the Ray Mac takes me back to my time as a youngster watching Watford at Vicarage Road. It takes me back to a time when I fell in love with the game. It is real football.

FA CUP - The Most Prestigious & Oldest Domestic Knock Out Tournament In World! by adam jaylin

The Football Association (FA) Challenge Cup or the FA Cup, as it is known popularly, is the most prestigious and oldest domestic knock out tournament in world football. The format of the tournament has changed a bit since its was first contested during the year 1872. Every year, several teams from many leagues across England and Wales fight for FA Cup. The only requirement for participation in the tournament is the clubs need to be registered with the Association, playing in a well known league and having access to the stadium for home games. Teams are randomly paired for every round, and drawn games are replayed. Results of replay matches are ensured with penalty shootouts and extra-time. August is the month when the preliminary rounds for the teams in lower leagues. Teams in English football's higher flights automatically qualify for the next stages of the tournament, & mainly in the 3rd round are most often drawn against the lower-league-clubs. These encounters result in making the Cup odds a good collection for punters. Official competition's rounds culminate in 2 semi-finals played at neutral-grounds to be followed by the popular FA Cup Final at Wembley during the end of May. Besides the coveted trophy & prize money of £1,000,000, the victors get automatic entry to the following UEFA cup. Few who've been watching the stars of today competing in the Cup are familiar with its humble beginnings. During the 1872, merely 2000 spectators had watched the defeat of Royal Engineers. The Wanderers had defeated them by 1-0 at the Oval. In the new century, the Cup became the much talked about one among the people. Tens of thousands of football fans flocked to watch their football heroes do battle at Crystal Palace, Old Trafford and Stanford Bridge. By the 1950s, crowds of over 100,000 routinely attended the FA Cup Final at the Wembley Empire Stadium. As English football's top flight is becoming more competitive year after year, teams such as Everton and Manchester City offer great odds for the punters.

The Premier League by Ellen Birkin

The Premier League is the professional league for football clubs. It is also known as Barclays Premier League or The Premiership. The Primal League, contested by 20 clubs, is the primary competition of U.K. football. It is known as the most lucrative football league in the world. Its revenue from stadium attendances is the fourth highest attendance in the world. Total club revenues of more than 1.4 billion pounds make it one of the biggest sports events of the season.

Premier League clubs have the freedom of signing any number of players; there is no individual salary cap, no age restriction other than standard restrictions specified by law. Player wagers in the Premier league become more substantial over the years; whereas in the first Premier League season the player received 75,000 pounds per years, during the next decade the payment increased significantly and became almost 7000,000 pounds.

The Premier League receives a substantial promotion worldwide. It is celebrated as "The Greatest Show on Earth", being the most watched sporting league. Half a billion people get the chance to watch Premier League on television. Premier League fans read news and articles about the event, exchange Premier League rumors and gossip involving Premier League, watch TV news and read sports sections in different magazines. Fans collect videos of the games and watch them on videos, making commentaries regarding the games of particular players. Premier League games on TV always gather a large audience and are rightfully considered to be the most famous sports event in the world.

Coaching English Football Out Of Its Decline by Damian Nicolaou

Let us start with a comparison of two footballing nations. England's population is nearly 61 million, whereas the population of the Netherlands is just over 16 million. As in Holland, football is the most popular sport in England; the most widely played and watched, and as the number one sport, the most gifted athletes naturally gravitate to it. England is probably the richest football nation in the world, the cream of the world's football talent gravitate to clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and North London giants Arsenal and Tottenham. Even legendary names such as Ajax and PSV are considered by players as mere stepping stones on the way to bigger and better things.

And yet, since 1966 the Dutch national team has won the European Championship and twice appeared in the World Cup final. In the same time period England has never got past the semi final stage of a major tournament. So how is that possible?

Arjen Robben's former mentor, Peter Jeltema thinks he knows. "Dutch soccer is based on technique and tactics," he says, implying that English football is not, an observation which is borne out by even casual observation of the England team in action. Two other fundamentals of Dutch youth coaching are that children are allowed to have fun and encouraged to express themselves as individuals.

Unfortunately in England self expression and having fun are not high on the priority list, winning is all, and yet this mentality has resulted only in successive generations of technically inferior players and a national team incapable of challenging at a major tournament, even qualifying is an uphill struggle.

Another factor could be the culture of blame seen everywhere in this country. Even technically accomplished young players have fear coached into them. Because of the emphasis on winning at all costs, even naturally gifted youngsters will opt to boot the ball clear rather than play it and risk making mistakes and incurring the wrath of the screaming mob at the sideline. Once this fear and mentality has been coached into a young player it is impossible to remove, they will default to these modes of behaviour every time the pressure is on, as evidenced once again by the habits of the national team.

Perhaps though there is another reason, could it just be that the Dutch clubs put more money into youth coaching than the English, knowing that they can't afford to import great players and must rely selling to bring in a steady stream of income to keep afloat? No. English clubs pour millions into their academies.

At this point it is interesting to compare England with Africa where financial resources are minimal and conditions poor. But somehow Africa is churning out increasing numbers of confident, skilled footballers with the ability and self belief to think and play their way out of any situation. How can this be? One coach, who has had experience of both African and English football, concludes that the African players, through lack of coaching, have just been allowed to develop naturally: "They're not as bothered about making mistakes. Maybe we coach them a little too much in this country and don't allow kids to come up with their own solutions. We don't let them trust their instincts."

Hopefully the FA's long awaited 'root and branch review' of football will lead to the long needed restructure of football coaching in this country. There is a lot to be learned from the Dutch and African experiences, and if the English spirit was mixed with the best of these alternative approaches, we might witness a generation of world beaters in the not too distant future.

Transfer Rumours by Ellen Birkin

In football, transfer is considered the action of moving the player from one club to another. The players can be transferred to a different club only during a specific period of time, which is called "a transfer window". The end of the transfer window is known as "deadline day", which is usually the busiest day of the whole period. This system has been used in European leagues and was made obligatory during the season of 2002-2003. Set of rules regarding the transfer window is set by the football governing body.

A footballer can leave a certain club only if the club agrees to terminate the contract with the footballer. The club to whom the player is transferred usually pays what is called the "transfer fee", a sum of money paid as compensation. A part of the transfer fee is usually paid to the player and the agents involved. Transfer may also include free transfer, which is a release of player once his contract is expired or available before the contract ends. In a free transfer, the team doesn't have to pay compensations for the release of the player. A transfer for a nominal fee is also sometimes considered a free transfer. Transfer rumours news and Transfer rumours articles are published in fan magazines and always present "hot topics".

Transfer rumours gossip is a major part of sports news in journals and TV-programs about different branches of sports. Transfer rumours news may include rejection of new contracts, extension of existing contracts, different scandals involving sign-up of new contracts, and many other transfer events.

World Cup Football

The FIFA World Cup is very important in the world of international football, also known as soccer. The World Cup is contested by the men’s national football teams of FIFA member nations and is awarded every 4 years. There have been 17 tournaments held to date, but only 7 nations have won the World Cup Finals. The nation of Brazil holds the cup currently and have won the cup a total of 5 times making them the leading team. The next World Cup Finals will be held in Germany where Germany holds 3 titles.

In 1872 the first international football match was played between England and Scotland. In the beginning of the sport there were never medals awarded. It was called a demonstration sport and was played at the Olympics.

In 1909 the game was finally played for a trophy and was organized by Sir Thomas Lipton. That game is often referred to a the first World Cup. The title was won by West Auckland. They won again in 1911.

In 1914 FIFA recognized the tournament as “world football for amateurs”. This how things led to the first intercontinental football competition in 1924 at the summer Olympics. Uruguay won the tournament. In 1928 FIFA came up with their own international tournament.

Because football was not very popular in the united states it was not part of the program for the 1932 Olympics held in Los Angeles.

What Does Football have to do with Finances? by Patti Handy

OK, I admit it. I like football. This season has been especially exciting to watch. Although I don’t understand all the strategies just yet, I enjoy watching the carefully planned plays. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t, but nevertheless, very fun stuff to watch.

As I’m watching the games, it occurs to me that football and finances have a lot in common. (I admit, sometimes it’s hard for me to turn my ‘work’ brain off, even in the middle of an exciting game). The plays are carefully planned, the teams spend countless hours practicing and strategizing, there is an experienced coach that guides the team to victory and they never give up. Their goal is specific, understood by all and there is serious motivation to win. Do you see where I am going with this?

Your money matters, your financial roadmap, require the same mindset as those big, bad, burly football players. If you don’t have a specific plan in place, if you don’t practice and don’t have someone guiding you, you will probably not end up where you want to. When it’s time to send your kids to college, go on that vacation or retire, where are those funds coming from? What if you lost your job unexpectedly? Do you have reserves to fall back on?

Imagine those football players running onto the field with no plan, no plays. It would almost be painful to watch. Complete chaos. Is that what we enjoy watching? Doubtful. So, is your financial picture complete chaos? If so, don’t panic. It’s never too late to get things in order.

Start by having a plan. Write down specific goals, what action steps are necessary to achieve those goals and by when. If lifestyle changes must occur, define what those changes are and commit to that change. Sit down and pull all your bills out for the last month. Determine your fixed expenses and compare that to what you actually spend every month. Sometimes this alone can be a real eye opener. Where does all that extra money go? The local coffee house? Lunch out? Those shoes you had to have? Here’s an interesting statistic: If you saved $4 per day (one coffee) for 5 days per week for 52 weeks and invested that money at 10%, do you know how much you would have after 40 years? Some would say about $80,000, $90,000 even $100,000. Nope, you would have $553,396. Wow. Compound interest could be your new best friend.

With the start of the New Year, I encourage you to spend some time and make a plan. You deserve this. If you need some help, seek guidance. Taking action is the most important step you can take. I wish you the best.

Coaching Confident, Creative Footballers

Experts believe it is between the ages of five and eleven that children learn skills and habits, good or bad, that stay with them their entire lives - this applies equally to education, personality and sport. It is during this vital period that footballers can be made or destroyed. A few years of being coached by an aggressive, unqualified manager to boot long balls into the channels and 'get rid of it' at a formative age can result in a player who reverts back to that early training every time the pressure is on (as we have seen England teams do so many times over the years) or even loses their love of the game entirely.

In response to the latest confirmation of the failings of the national team, the FA recently launched a skills initiative to target youngsters in this age bracket. The aims of this initiative are to raise overall playing standards, to discover gifted players at a young age, and most importantly to make sure they receive the right coaching. The FA scheme, the brainchild of Sir Trevor Brooking, could actually benefit not just football, but English sport as a whole, as as one of its primary aims is to improve children's agility, balance and co-ordination, the foundations of many sports. The FA will deploy coaches across the country to undertake this task, and each region will have a further coach whose task will be solely to educate other coaches and raise the overall standard of coaching young footballers receive. Better coaching should hopefully result in future generations of technically accomplished English footballers able to play the fast paced passing game as witnessed throughout the age groups at Arsenal's North London academies.

For too long regional FA's have operated different policies to each other, resulting in confusion and inconsistency in youth coaching. For the first time there will be a coordinated, centralised strategy applied nationwide. Brooking explains: 'We have to integrate to raise the bar at grassroots level. If we're doing that we'll do it at the top level. That's why multi-skills are the starting point for every youngster. We want to look at agility, balance and co-ordination, then try to identify the ones who can become football specific. From those in the five-to-11 age range we can get the best, who should go into an elite programme.' A worthy aim, and one received well by other figures in football such as Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce who laments: 'We don't grow top sportsmen from a young age. Football cannot be expected to develop players from six years old without proper quality identification programmes and ways of schooling young people of promise through the early ages to develop their talent.' He then adds ominously, 'Until we get those basics in place our chances of breeding a World Cup-winning side are as remote as our chances of breeding an English Wimbledon champion.' It goes without saying that Andy Murray is, of course, Scottish.

English football is not short of money, the FA is one of the richest organisations in world football, and English clubs make more money than those of any other nation, but it is the way the money is spent that is the issue. Brooking wants more money to be pumped into training five to eleven year olds, and the introduction of specialist qualifications and assessments for youth coaches. He also wants the philosophy the English coaching to change, becoming more like the approach seen in Latin America, Europe and Africa. If he manages to do that then maybe, just maybe England might have a chance.

Ministry of Football takes a more enlightened approach to coaching young footballers. The emphasis of the Ministry of football method is on fun. Sessions combine dance music with elements of the Dutch and Brazilian methods. All Ministry of Football coaches are FA qualified, CRB checked and trained in emergency aid and safeguarding children. Ministry of Football coaching is currently available in North London.

Football Pros Doing Football Freestyle

Well, I'm sure you've seen some pros doing some juggling tricks, a.k.a football freestyle. We all saw Maradona back in the days, even if you were not around then you have probably seen videos and heard stories. Back then he was one of a kind with his football juggling skills. He did things od the pitch no one else was able to do. A lot of people have probably seen his warming up video to the music track "Life is life", who have not been amazed by his skills in this video?

Today you see the pros doing some football juggling tricks in the warm up or in TV ads and you may think it's really amazing, let me tell you... it's not. What they are doing are either the most simple trick or it's a freestyler doing the advanced move for them. I am not trying to take the props away from the footballers, they are the best in the world... at football. But when it comes to football freestyle there is a whole new dimension to what juggling tricks are. The impossible is possible these days! But again, when a pro does a trick it's getting really amazing. I've seen great freestylers doing a really good show standing next to pros who are doing really simple stuff... guess who gets the applauses and the attention? the pro!

There are some pros who actually are able to do some of the basic football freestyle tricks, players like Ronaldinho, C. Ronaldo and Edgar Davids for example. Why do they bother? Well, first of it's a great way to entertain people, to be able to do what not every player can do. Also it will improve some of your skills which you will notice during your real football game. The football pros will never be close to the football freestyle pros. A freestyle pro is probably putting as much effort to his freestyle as a football pro does on his football. People mostly think that if you're a good juggler you are a good football player, that's not necessarily true. Many people are good freestylers but don't know how to play football. People need to learn the difference.

Finally I would like to give props to Edgar Davids, I've seen him play street football with local tricks and doing tricks with them, he's a true inspiration for a lot of people out there!

Want to know more about football freestyle, here's a good website:

Football Special Teams Punt Coverage Used by Big East Football Team

I was talking with a friend of mine who is a Big East Head Coach about Special Teams. Specifically, punt coverage.

This particular article is about the spread punt.

The spread punt is the easiest to teach. It can be broken down into five S's.

If you can get those five things down, I think you can build your base for putting in the punting game. Here is more detail about the five S's:

Punting and Punt Coverage

Zone or man set -

Our punter lines up 15-yards deep. You must have a snapper that can get the ball back to him. If we can get the snap and kick away in 1.9 seconds, I feel very good. If the kick is away in 2.0, we have done our job. We break that down on the snap at .8 and 1.1 for the kicker. It is difficult to block the kick if you can get the ball away in 2.0 seconds.

Let me give you the two rules for the center on our spread punt:

The center blocks away from the punter or to the right or left call.

If a man calls (3-3) he can release.

The personal protector is expected to count the defenders. He counts from our left to the right. He must declare which way he wants the center to block. Here are the rules for the personal protector on our spread punt:

The personal protector is responsible for the overload player. The personal protector will always go away from the center on a 44 call.

Only count those players whose feet are on the line of scrimmage with linemen or in a threatening position.

The personal protector reads left to right.

The personal protector scans if there is no man to pick up.

The center is always counted.

The magic number is

Again, 8

We have five defenders to our left side. We have three defenders to the right side. Left tells the center to block to the left.

The center snaps the ball then steps back to get width that keeps a seam from forming. Everybody still takes a zone step to help the player to the inside. Once the wall is formed and secure, the blockers drive out on their primary defender. The left slot has number one. The left tackle has number two. The left guard has number three. The center will always have number five in anThe center snaps the ball and then steps back to get big or wide to keep a seam from forming. Everyone still takes their zone steps and to help the player to his inside.

For example, the guards help the center, the tackles help the guards, and the slot helps the tackles. Once the wall is formed and secure, then you drive out on your primary defender. The left slot has the number one, left tackle has number two, the left guard has number three, and the center has number four to the left. The right guard has number three, the right tackle has number two, and the right slot has the number one man. The personal protector has the fourth man to the right side. If we call three it is automatic man blocking. If you are in a 33 protection you can release the center. You have them outnumbered. You are able to block them man-on-man but you never change your steps. three they yell twist alert.

It may be conceived as man protection, but you still take the zone steps. If the defense is running a three-man rush on one side, then they are going to try to run some type of game on the overloaded side. If we get a three-man, we communicate it from the guard outside to the tackle and to the slot back. When our blockers hear

This is an overload situation. The personal protector has number four to the left. We only count the players who have their feet on the line of scrimmage. We do not count stacked outside linebackers.

This is where zone and man protection come together. I have made it clear in our special teams meeting if you are on the punt team you had better get your three steps down. You handle yourself relative to the zone element. You must zone the area and stay square. You must use good three-step mechanics. Now, from there everyone is working together. If two defenders come at the blocker he is going to help inside with his hands before he works out to his primary man. The three steps help take the pressure off the man inside. After we take the three steps, then we set up to take on the primary rusher.

Most of the blockers tend to rush the block. Most of the time they want to go get their man. If they do that they leave the inside man on an island. If the slot man goes out after the number four man outside, he leaves the tackle on his own against the number three man. If the number four man comes inside, the tackle has to take on both number four and number three rushers. The tackle cannot let number three go because he has to help out inside. I try to overemphasize the zone steps before we talk about the man steps. If you talk about the man steps they'll want to one-step set and jump their man. It goes against the principles of the three-step set and keeping the shoulders square.

Football Scouting Software

Football is all about timing. Not just the timing that is required between the offensive line and the running back, or between the safeties and linebackers on a blitz play, but also the timing of the coach to choose the right plays at the right time. The difference between success and failure rides upon play selection more than any other factor.

Having great plays in your arsenal is one thing, but knowing when to use them is something completely different. If you can catch the other team off guard, you can change the course of the game in one play. For a century, coaches have tried to master this art, but the reality is that effective play calling is a very difficult thing to do consistently.

You now have a new ally in this hundred-yard game of war, and it is in the form of your computer. Football Tools has created football scouting software that helps you analyze your play selection so that you can become more unpredictable to opposing coaches. Footbal Scouting software can help you track your plays and get you more organized and coordinated.

"Controlled chaos" is a good phrase which to describe to Chalk Talk football scouting software. Simply, it help you get a handle on dozens of plays by telling you which plays you run and when. For instance, it will tell you your top 10 plays on 3rd and 10, or your most popular pass plays in the red zone. This is useful stuff, and it will help you immensely on the field.

As a coach, make sure you have all the football coaching tools you need to win!

Are Football Clubs Owned By Fans The Future Of Football?

For fifteen years now, media moguls, TV corporations and, latterly, self-interested millionaires and billionaires have ploughed cash into English football (or soccer, if you prefer), changing the upper echelons of the game beyond all recognition.

Top Premiership clubs report annual profits running into tens of millions of pounds. Players take home weekly pay checks that exceed the average annual salary in the UK - with the top players getting four or fives times that.

And the British Government mops up too, taking an estimated £4.3 billion (yes, that's right, £4.3 billion) in tax from the sport every year.

So, you'd think, with all this money flying around, everyone would be a winner? Well, no. Unfortunately not.

Whilst blank chequebooks are being waved at Premiership clubs by investors from the US, Thailand, Russia and even Iceland, only a fraction of this money trickles down to the lower leagues. Whilst the top clubs have gone from strength to strength, the clubs in the lower leagues are, if anything, slightly worse off than they were 15 years ago.

Not a season goes by without half a dozen smaller clubs having to be dragged back from the brink of bankruptcy by a last-minute deal. This season is no exception with Coventry City & Luton Town already having accepted the 10-point penalty that comes with going into administration. Bournemouth are rumoured to be close to doing the same, just as Leeds United and Boston United recover from the same experience last season. These clubs are some of many that hover dangerously close to going out of business completely - tragic endings to centuries of football tradition.

The simple fact is that the commercial aspects of lower league football in England no longer add up. Spiraling costs, ridiculous player salaries, agent fees and fierce competition from an ever-increasing number of televised games which serve to reduce gate receipts are all making the smaller clubs tighten their belts season after season. No wonder some clubs are reporting weekly losses running into thousands of pounds.

A bleak picture that is repeated at clubs up and down the country. But, amidst all the financial gloom, there are a few tales of optimism that football fans everywhere cling onto for comfort. Indeed, it is the fans themselves that are often the forgotten but essential ingredient to any football club's success, something some of the Premiership clubs could do well with remembering.

Increasingly it is the fans and, more specifically, supporters groups that are helping and orchestrating the survival of the smaller clubs in professional football.

Over 60 English football clubs are now supported financially in one way or another by a supporters trust. Some teams, such as Exeter City, only exist today because they were saved from being dissolved when supporters groups invested their own hard-earned money into their clubs.

The idea of supporter's trusts is not new. In the early 1900s, clubs such as Leicester City invited local residents to raise a 'working man's subscription' to enable the clubs to attract better players, but it's only really in the past 20 years that the concept has really been considered as a viable means of financially stabilizing a football club.

Such has been the emergence of supporters groups, that in 2006, the then UK Sports Minister, Richard Caborn, petitioned UEFA to consider the benefits of fan ownership of football clubs, not only in the UK but across Europe. Top of the list of considerations was the idea that Supporters Trusts could be used to supplement or even take full ownership of football clubs. With Mr. Caborn known to be a fan of Supporters Direct, the company that has orchestrated the creation of many of the trusts already in place, the likelihood is that more trusts will be formed over the coming years.

Indeed, at fifteen UK clubs, supporters now hold 100% of the shares and own the clubs outright and the past six months has seen this concept evolve yet further still. The emergence of fan-based web enterprises such as MyFootballClub and ThePeoplesClub.com are once again pushing the boundaries of fan ownership in football further still.

These initiatives not only allow the fans to own the club, but also to run it on a day-to-day basis. Through online voting, fans are able to make wide ranging decisions about the club including choosing the team for each match and even hiring and firing the manager.

MyFootballClub's acquisition of Ebbsfleet United in the autumn of 2007 was a groundbreaking step towards this new form of fan ownership and ThePeoplesClub.com are expected to follow suit at the end of the 2007/08 season with their own acquisition. Similar models to this have already emerged in other European counties including France, Denmark and Israel.

Whilst football traditionalists frown upon the schemes, primarily doubting the fans' ability to run the club effectively, these schemes all have the potential to bring significant levels of investment to the clubs they acquire - often upwards of £1million per annum. There are very few clubs in the lower leagues of English football that could afford to turn down an annual injection of cash of that magnitude.

In the commercialized world of football, these kinds of schemes are no longer a fad, but a necessity. Whether you agree with the concept of web-based fan models, or simply love standing on the terraces at your local club every Saturday afternoon, there may come a time sooner or later where you will need to put your hand in your pocket and invest your own hard-earned cash in order to ensure that your club survives to play another season.

There is no doubt that the billionaires and large corporates will continue to pump money into the top end of English football, but could it be that fan ownership is the way forwards for smaller clubs simply looking to survive to play another season?

Football Odds in Gambling

Football odds are very tricky and need to be examined carefully before any kind of bet is places on any game. Gambling needs a very sensitive approach. It needs such a specific approach because if football odds are considered carefully enough, football gambling can be very productive and profitable to the gambler.

So if football odds are such an integral but sensitive subject in the area of football gambling, what do players and gamblers need to look for? Are there specific tells to be found in the odds when it comes to gambling and placing bets on certain games? These odds show the chances of a certain team winning or losing as estimated and based on several facts. These are very important clues that can help make the differentiation between gambling as a gamble and gambling as a science slightly less distinct. The desired result in the end is, after all, to make money. No one wants to lose money.

When you bet, you need to take these odds into consideration. Likewise, when you make football bets, you need to take the football odds into consideration. No one wants to make a silly mistake by betting on a team whose odds are so greatly stacked against them that there is no way they could win. For example, a team in which most every starter is injured. Now of course there have been examples wherein there were great football odds stacked against a football team and they won anyway, and in that case the payout would be very substantial, however this is not a good way to attempt every day gambling when it comes to football games and their odds.

Football Is The Most Watched Sport In America

The American Football has its roots that arise from rugby. The different universities had been playing football in the 1800s. The first football match between the Rutgers University and Princeton University was played on November 6, 1869. In that match Rutgers University won the first game 6-4. From the year 1820 to 1890, the students of Dartsmouth College played football that was known then by the name of Old Division Football and they published the rules in 1871. Since American Football was more or like rugby, Yale University’s Walter Camp encouraged that the schools adopt more standardized rules so that the game would differentiate from Rugby, which was in 1882.

It was in the early 1900s that there were about 18 college football players who died and then the rules changed and required the players to not form the deadly formations such as the flying wedge and it required the players to wear protective equipment such as helmets, chest guard, shoulder guard etc. It was in the year 1912 that the game got its form of the modern game and the changes that were introduced included a change in the size of the field, which is the current size, the touchdown points were increased to 6. The football is considered second to the baseball in United States.

It was in 1920 that the National Football League also known as NFL was founded. The football saw a downtime during the World War II and then with the television broadcast, the professional football got a kick again and gained a great deal of popularity at a national level. It was in the 1960s that the professional game crossed both the college football and the baseball in popularity. In 1967, the first Super Bowl was played between the champions of NFL and the American Football League and then the two leagues were merged together. It would not be wrong to say that millions of people watch the matches when the teams are at war in the field.

Football FAQ: So You Won't Look Too Stupid Watching Football With Your Date

* What are the positions in football?

There are two types of position, an offensive position and a defensive position. One of the most essential offensive positions is the quarterback. The protectors of the quarterback are the offensive line.

As an additional protection there are the running-the-ball positions of running back and fullback. These positions are located in the backfield, behind the quarterback. The last offensive position is the wide receiver. This position has the main objective of receiving (catching) the ball when the quarterback throws (passes) it.

The defensive positions are: defensive end, linebacker, cornerback, and safety, who has the last thing to say about defense. Safeties are located at the back, while the defensive ends are out front.

* What does each position in football do?

Offensive positions are: quarterback, offensive line, running back, fullback, and wide receiver. The quarterback is the leader of the team. He gets the ball at the beginning of each play and he makes the decision whether to throw the ball or run it.

The offensive line's job is to defend the quarterback or the running back, especially while they have the ball. Another thing the offensive line does is block or catch passes.

Running backs and fullbacks are the major hurrying unit. The wide receiver is the one who will usually catch the ball when the quarterback throws it. He must be tall and quick.

Defensive positions are: defensive end, linebacker, cornerback, and safety. The defensive ends are the outer part of the defensive team. Linebackers are the most important line-up of the defense. They are the quick, hard hitters. Cornerbacks are in charge of defending the wide receiver so he can catch the ball and run with it, while the safeties guard and defend the cornerbacks.

* Where did the name football originate?

form of football called harpaston was first played by the ancient Greeks. In the United States it was played as early as 1609 in Virginia, though in a simpler form. For the ball, they used the inflated bladder of a slaughtered pig.

Most "football" today is played in Europe and South America, and is the sport that North Americans call soccer. Football got its name because in soccer the hands cannot be used to move the ball. Later, rugby came into popularity, wherein the hands are allowed to be used.

American football has been widely influenced by rugby, and is known throughout the world today as (guess what) "American football."

* Where did they get the shape of the football?

The shape of the football comes from the shape of the ball in the game of rugby. Football has an elongated ball with pointed ends. The ball is perfectly designed for the player to hold it easily and have a nice aerodynamic motion when it is perfectly thrown. It also has an unpredictable bounce when it hits the ground.

The ball is eleven inches long and about nine inches wide. All of the manufacturers put some laces on one side so the players can grip and hold it easily. This is the reason why rugby and football have almost the same shape of ball, in contrast to soccer, which has a round ball that is manipulated mainly by the feet.

The Best Football Season Ever: Sports Widows Can Have Their Own Fun!

The football season offers great opportunities for us women to rediscover ourselves, while keeping a distance from those who remain perpetually glued to the tube and their munchies week in and week out. So, don’t go in to ‘hibernation’ – here’s how you can take control of this season in some exciting and memorable ways.

Around this time of year I hear of women who feel abandoned. Yes, I’m talking about that unique seasonal male bonding ritual, called NFL Sunday’s and Monday Night Football.

If you are one of those women who begin looking at the T.V. set and plasma screens with hatred and envy, or whose mind starts to numb at the very word “football”, start thanking your guy instead for the wonderful opportunity you’ve just been handed.

What is that, you’re wondering? The chance to create your own Fall season ritual with your women friends. As the men become oblivious to you while tossing back a few beers, chowing down on their favorite junk foods and cheering on their chosen teams, take the ball in your own hands and organize your own celebration.

Remember, if you’re out of the house, you don’t have to deal with listening to the ongoing football commentary, requests for stuff from the kitchen or the assumption that you will be volunteered for clean up duty. If your partner is hopeless with organizing child care or cleaning up after the guys, write him a little love note, or say something that goes like this:

Dear Football-Fan Hubby,

know how much you love the football season. Sunday’s and Monday nights are holy for you until the day after the Super Bowl. This year I want you to really enjoy yourself. I’ve arranged a baby sitter/cleaner for the kids so that you can watch the games undistracted with your buddies. I’m getting out of the house, as well, so you can really hang out with the guys. You won’t even have to worry about the clean up.

Have a great time and know I love you,…

If on the other hand, your partner shares duties with you, you might try writing or saying the following:

Dear Football Fan Hubby,

I know how much you love the football season. Sunday’s and Monday nights are holy for you until the day after the Super Bowl. This year I really want you to enjoy yourself. That’s why I’ll plan on getting out of the house so you and your friends can have a good time alone. I’m leaving the babysitter and clean up arrangements to you so they suit you best. Have a great time,

Love,…

That’s Stage I. Now for the best part… Stage II.

Gather together a group of your friends and create your own version of female bonding. While it’s always nice to go out to a restaurant or a movie, why not try something a little different?

Consider forming a women’s club that meets every Sunday afternoon or Monday night during the football season. Have a different woman plan each week’s fun, according to her interests and specialties. That way, you may enjoy a spa night, a night tour of historical sites, famous homes, or great architecture in your area, a home crafts evening or one of decadent desserts. If one of you is a bookworm, ask each woman to come dressed as one of her favorite book characters and bring books to swap. The holidays are coming up – brainstorm with your women’s club on creative gifts for your family, while sipping on exotic wine punches and eating warm chestnuts. The possibilities are endless.

So, leave the couch potatoes in their most comfortable position – this year’s football season will never be the same.

The Basic Laws of Football (Soccer) by John Salter

The following is a very simple summary of the key laws of the game of football, hopefully written in an easy-to-understand way. For the definitive Laws of the Game you must go to the FIFA website.

The Pitch

The playing area ('pitch') must be rectangular and be between 90m (100yds) and 120m (130yds) long and between 45m (50yds) and 90m (100yds) wide. The end lines are called goal lines and the side lines are called touch lines.

The Ball

The ball must be spherical with a circumference of between 68cm (27in) and 70cm (28in) and a weight between 410gm (14oz) and 450gm (16oz).

Teams / Players

A match ('game') consists of 2 teams, each with no more than 11 players - including a goalkeeper ('goalie') - and no less than 7 players.

Player's Kit

Basic kit consists of a shirt, shorts, socks, shinguards and boots/shoes. Goalkeepers must wear colours different from other players - including their own side - and match officials.

Match Officials

Each match is controlled by a referee supported by 2 assistant referees. He stops the game by means of a whistle for any infringement. He also acts as timekeeper. The assistant referees indicate by flag when the ball is out of play. They also flag when they see infringements that the referee may not have seen.

Game Duration

A game consists of 2 halves of 45 minutes each, with an interval (half-time) of a maximum of 15 minutes. The referee may add on additional time at the end of each half to compensate for time lost through injuries, substitutions and players' deliberate 'time-wasting.'

Starting the Game

A coin is tossed to decide which team gets to choose which goal to attack. The losing team gets to take the kick-off to start the game. The teams change ends for the second half. A kick-off is also used after a goal is scored.

Ball Out of Play

A ball is out of play ('out') when the whole ball has crossed the goal line or touch line.

Goals

A goal has been scored when the whole ball has crossed the goal-line between the goal-posts. The team scoring the most goals wins. If both teams score the same number of goals - or neither team scores - the game is drawn.

Offside Rule

A player is penalised for offside if at the instant the ball was played by a team mate, the player was actively involved in the play and did not have 2 opposing players between him/her and the opposition's goal line. The player is not in an offside position if he/she is in his/her own half, or, is level with the second last opponent, or, receives the ball from a goal kick, corner kick or throw-in. An indirect free kick is awarded for offside.

Free Kicks and Penalty Kicks

There are 'direct' and 'indirect' free kicks. These are just some of the offences for which a direct free kick is awarded:- hitting, kicking; tripping; pushing; deliberate hand ball; etc. Similarly for an indirect free kick we have:- dangerous play; impeding an opponent ('obstruction'); a goalie holding the ball for more than 6 seconds; a goalie handling the ball after it has been passed to him by a team mate, etc. At the subsequent free kick, all opposition players must be a minimum of 9.15m (10yds) from where the ball is placed. A penalty kick is awarded for any infringement which takes place inside the penalty area for which a direct free kick would normally have been awarded if it had occurred outside the area.

Goal Kicks

Awarded to the defending team when the whole of the ball crosses the defending team's goal line - not between the goal posts because that is a goal - after having been last touched by an attacking player.

Corner Kicks

Awarded to the attacking team when the whole of the ball crosses the defending team's goal line - not between the goal posts because that is a goal - after having been last touched by a defending player.

Throw-Ins

Awarded to a team when the whole ball crosses a touch line after having been touched by a member of the opposing team.

The above should be sufficient for folks, new to football / soccer, to be able to follow and enjoy this fabulous game. Good spectating!

Football Or Network Marketing by Donald Latimore

You may not be a big football fan, but I am so read this anyway because it's good!

I was watching football the other day and I couldn't help but to notice what was happening on the field. I noticed every time the defensive line got near the quarterback and was ready to sack him, the quarterback started to scramble around trying to find the first player on his team he could throw the ball to.

It happened every time. Sometimes, the quarterback couldn't find anyone so he threw the ball away. Other times, he may have found someone to throw the ball to, but they were not necessarily the best person to receive the ball at the time. But he got rid of it anyway.

You see, that's what we do in the network marketing industry. When network marketers are not getting the results they are looking for with one product or one company they start scrambling around for another one.

Everything may be great at first, until they get to a point where they have to scramble again.

You see a quarterback has to scramble a lot throughout one football game. Why?

Because he can't find any eligible receivers!

Because his offensive line didn't quite block for him good enough!

Because he didn't run the play correctly!

So Donald what are you really saying?

Basic MVP Marketing has brought you The Network Marketing Training Center. Visit http://basicmvpmarketing.com

It was designed to help network marketers everywhere to help them build a successful MLM business and stop scrambling.

Understand...

In network marketing if you can't generate enough leads to be successful, then you are going to scramble around for the next best thing (YOU can't find any eligible receivers).

In network marketing if you don't generate some income from the retail sales of a front-end product, then you run the risk of running out of money while you are trying to build your MLM business. So, you scramble around for the next best thing (your offensive line can't block long enough for you to complete the pass).

In network marketing if you don't know how to market your business correctly, and I'm not talking about being possessed about a particular product, then you are going to fail. Your business is MARKETING so you need to know how to run the right plays.

Unfortunately, too many network marketers spend all their time scrambling around trying to find the next big thing they can grab a hold to and they don't spend any time learning how to market their business. So, learn how to market your business first with the help of the Network Marketing Center. Visit http://basicMVPmarketing.com

Listen, if you got down this far, then here is my message to you...

You got into the network marketing business to make money. But you won't make any real money until you learn how to do it right.

This is NOT something that I made up, this is reality, and I had to learn it too.

Understand, a football player can't be in the NFL without knowing all the in's and out's of the game.

So, learn the industry you are in and stop scrambling!
