Women Love Football Too

Football is proverbially seen as a man's sport, an excuse to get together with the guys and drink until the final touchdown. While men do seem to be the most common demographic (perhaps they can relate to the idea of men knocking each other unconscious and screaming) there are many women that do actually enjoy the game. This is not simply referring to women who tolerate the Super Bowl parties and serve up BBQ wings to the army of NFL fans walking through the door. These are actually female fans that keep track of the score, root for the home team and would kick the average guy's butt when it comes to organizing a Super Bowl party.

What is to explain this phenomenon and why don't more women enjoy football? Realize that some sports parties are characterized by gender bonding. If men want to hang out with their friends then, nothing personal, they may not warm up to the idea of a wife or girlfriend crashing the party. The man may even fear that the women will bring an awkward energy to the event, such as criticizing some guy-like staples or focusing on the negative aspects of football. The man may be afraid of such a scenario and attempt to keep the game as mysterious and unwomanly as possible.

However, some guys are open to the idea of their spouse joining in on the Sunday fun, especially if she is a natural follower and enjoys watching a good show. The woman may warm up to sports in an effort to bond with her spouse or to make more friends. They may find exhilaration in showing the team spirit, having the common enemy and foe as their mate. When you think about it, football is a rather operatic sport; at once an expression of primal human emotion and a gladiatorial battle between giants. People live vicariously though these sports figures, and so both men and women find human aspiration thrilling and maybe even inspiring.

Then of course there are women who just love football for the same reason that men do-because it's fun, because they enjoy making predictions and cheering on their favorite teams, and because they've watched every Super Bowl since 1975. Men are not the only ones who can become obsessive over sports. There are some female NFL experts out there who can feel the same rush of adrenaline that comes from watching Tom Brady throw a game-winning pass. Everybody loves a good competition and football is America's most competitive game, with the most passionate of fans. It is at once, a patriotic event (watch the city of Atlanta be humbled by Dallas, while New York feuds with Green Bay) and a riveting thriller involving real life heroes and villains who grab that ball for dear life.

There's only one thing more satisfying in life than watching the Super Bowl with the guys, a bucket of wings and a keg of beer all to yourself-all that plus a girl by your side who never asks to change the channel.

The Key To Fantasy Football Salary Cap Challenge Games

Most fantasy football enthusiasts are experienced with the traditional draft and auction formats of fantasy football. In these formats, participants draft a team of football players in either a serpentine draft or auction and compete against their fellow fantasy football owners each week.

Still, there are other fantasy football formats that are popular. One of these formats is known as the salary cap challenge game, originated by CDMSports in the early 1990s. There are varying rules with each company's fantasy football challenge game, but in general fantasy football owners draft a team of players under a predetermined salary cap and then add and drop players each week. Unlike traditional fantasy football, each team can own the same players.

These types of games have gained attention and popularity for their ease of play and large grand prizes. While there are different rules for each company that runs these games, the same general strategies can be applied to be successful.

1. Pay Attention

Especially with the 17-week football season, if you forget to add, drop or bench players one week, your season in a fantasy football challenge game could be finished. With bye weeks, getting a donut for a couple spots on your roster could be all it takes to end your chance at winning.

2. Weigh Risk Over Reward

Going into the season we always see fantasy football websites and magazines making claims about "sleepers" and "breakout players". The tough part is knowing who to trust. As with traditional fantasy football, if you pick the wrong sleepers you could be doomed. Do analysis of your own and use your gut instinct when you make your picks, and if you are choosing players that are yet to produce in the NFL, weight the upside if these picks.

3. Don't Overreact

It's human nature for sports fans and fantasy football owners to be short on patience. If your favorite team in the NFL starts the season 0-2, you might be in the mood to give up on the season. If fantasy football gold mine LaDainian Tomlinson starts the season looking like a mediocre running back (as he did in 2007), many fantasy owners will use that same logic and figure that their season is over or make reactionary moves.

4. Injury-Prone Players Have More Value Than Usual

If you draft Donovan McNabb in a traditional draft and he gets hurt, your team could be in deep trouble since it is tougher stash depth in a traditional fantasy football league. In challenge games, depth is a non-issue. You can always add players if you have an injury, so you might as well acquire the players with the most upside as opposed to the players with the best durability.

There are many more general and specific strategies for fantasy football challenge games. You can play fantasy football challenge games at websites such as Fanball.com (formerly CDMSports.com), Sandbox.com and SportingNews.com.

Manchester Prepares for Uefa Cup Fans by Karri Madelline

Manchester is bracing itself for the Uefa Cup Final on 14th May, which will see an estimated 100,000 football fans descend upon the city to see Glasgow Rangers play Zenit St Petersburg at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Manchester Council officials have urged fans of both teams not to travel to Manchester without a ticket for the match. However, a Manchester council spokesperson also said that they are expecting a number of fans to come to the city anyway, so they plan to put on a programme of entertainment for them. The spokesperson said: "Realistically, city chiefs know that thousands will want to be near their club during the crucial match."

It is thought that Uefa has allocated around 13,000 tickets for the 44,00-capacity game to fans of each team. Despite this, tens of thousands of Rangers fans are still expected to come down to Manchester from Glasgow for the game, which means that the host city can expect to receive anything up to 100,000 football fans. It is not yet known whether the council will erect giant TV screens in the city, which will enable ticketless fans to watch the important match in Manchester.

The council has confirmed that they will be providing entertainment, food, drink and travel to supporters of both teams in order to make their time in the city as comfortable as possible. It is thought that these facilities will be provided to supporters in a number of dedicated fan zones that will be scattered throughout the city in a variety of locations, including Albert Square and Piccadilly Gardens.
As well as providing entertainment, food and drink in these fan zones, a number of three-a-side football tournaments have also been planned to take place in the Castlefield area of the city. In addition to this, there will be shuttle buses to transport fans between the city centre to the stadium.

officials have high expectations for match day and are encouraging the community, as well as pubs and hotels in the city, to help them make the day as special as possible for both sets of fans. Gerry Donnellan of Greater Manchester Police said: "Everyone in Manchester has a part to play in creating an enjoyable and busy atmosphere. We want pubs and hotel to be open and to be properly staffed so that we can give visitors a proper welcome. We want to deliver a successful event for everyone who lives and works in Manchester and for our visitors."

Councillor Pat Karney has told fans that they will be representatives of their own teams and cities, so advised them to behave themselves while they are in Manchester. He said: "It's going to be a fantastic busy day and we are making plans so that everyone can enjoy themselves. Fans will be ambassadors for their clubs and their cities, so our message to them is, 'Please don't let down your home city'."
